Welcome :)
My name is Jessica Neusitz. I am from St. Louis Missouri and grew up in Webster Groves. I am an artist and an elementary art teacher. I earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting from the University of Kansas in 2009 and a Master in Education and an Art Education Certification from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 2015.
I have loved making art for as long as I can remember. It is such a great feeling to get lost in creativity. My main medium that I tend to work in is oil painting, but I also love to work in acrylics, glitter, resin and clay. I also enjoy learning about new materials, techniques and ways of creating and enjoy teaching my students a variety of ways to create.
I find myself painting an assortment of subject matters. I began painting by being drawn to natural forms. I enjoyed studying people and nature. I had a wonderful foundation in drawing and painting from KU where I learned to study the human form and the shapes and forms of objects and places around me. I enjoy painting figures, plants, landscapes, food, and places.
I love color! The closer I look at my subject matter the more colors I am able to see. I enjoy even exaggerating colors at times to make the images extra saturated and vibrant. I try to keep parts of my painting loose and painterly and I also find myself focusing in on certain sections with more details and information.
In 2020 I started creating dreamscapes which were colorful landscapes from my imagination to help escape the troubles of every day life. I really enjoy using acrylics, glitter and resin to make fun and magical dreamscapes.
During 2023 I started focusing my artwork on St. Louis, the city that I live in and was born and raised. We have so many unique and special places and items that make this city a wonderful place to call home. I have taken a closer look at landmarks and specialty items in St. Louis and have been enjoying creating artwork that represents our lively city. My goal has been to capture the essence of St. Louis and evoke nostalgia in both locals and visitors. I love capturing St. Louis in a unique and whimsical way. As a foodie I also enjoy highlighting some of our St. Louis specialties. While St. Louis remains a central theme, my portfolio also includes eclectic pop art, nature, and various inspirations that fuel my creative endeavors.
